Theater in Education (TIE) National Workshop @ Mysore

The Theatre in Education workshop is designed to equip teachers with techniques and tools to integrate theatre into the educational process. This experiential program engages teachers’ bodies, voices, minds, and emotions, fostering artistic and creative exploration. The workshop encourages imagination, inquiry, and empathy, moving beyond traditional ‘right or wrong’ paradigms. Through theatre games, exercises, group projects, creative dance, puppetry, and more, participants explore physical awareness, emotional recognition, language development, and societal understanding.
Workshop Objectives:
- Introduce theatre as a tool for education.
- Enhance awareness and control of body parts.
- Develop physical skills and control over one’s body.
- Facilitate self-exploration and expression of various emotions.
- Foster language development through word games, songs, and storytelling.
- Animate abstract concepts such as numbers, shapes, and alphabets.
- Promote gender awareness and sensitivity.
- Explore roles and societal dynamics through role-playing and storytelling.
- Encourage empathy and teamwork through collaborative projects.
- Help teachers express themselves mentally, emotionally, physically, and intellectually through various mediums.
- Integrate educational games and aesthetics into teaching practices.
Workshop daily tentitive Schedule:
10 AM to 11 AM – class by Prasanna
11 AM to 1 PM Class by Rajneesh Bisht
1 PM to 2 PM Lunch Breack
2PM to 4 PM Class by Rajneesh Bisht
4PM to 4:30 PM Tea Break
5:00 PM to 6:00PM – Guest lecturer / presentation /interaction on TIE (public event)
Outcomes:
The Theatre in Education workshop aims to empower teachers through artistic expression, critical thinking, and social awareness. By engaging in self-discovery, creativity, and exploration of societal roles, participants develop empathy, teamwork, a deeper understanding of the world, and the ability to integrate these skills into their teaching practices to make learning enjoyable, meaningful, and creative.

Workshop 7 days tentitive Schedule:
Day 1: Introduction to Theatre in Education and Physical Awareness
– Introduction to the workshop and objectives
– Basic voice, body, and mind exercises
– Body parts awareness exercises
– Exploring emotions through improvisation
– Creative expression through still images and statues
– Mirror games for empathy enhancement
Day 2: Voice and Expression
– Voice modulation exercises
– Incorporating sounds and gestures into physical expression
– Reflecting on personal memories and sharing experiences
– Understanding the role of games in children’s lives
– Art and craft session focusing on self-expression
Day 3: Movement and Creativity
– Creative dance and movement exercises
– Exploring different styles of movement and their expressive potentials
– Storytelling through movement
– Aesthetic exploration through art and movement
Day 4: Educational Games and Language Development
– Warm-up exercises with music accompaniment
– Word association games for creativity and language development
– Name games for community building
– Number games for integrating mathematics into creative activities
– Storytelling sessions focusing on educational experiences
– Discussions on drama’s impact in education
Day 5: Role-Playing and Societal Understanding
– Exploring characters, issues, and emotions through expression
– Role-playing activities to understand societal structures and dynamics
– Collage making and improvisation on societal issues
– City planning exercise for community dynamics
Day 6: Puppetry and Visual Arts
– Introduction to puppetry as a teaching tool
– Puppet-making workshop
– Creating puppet shows on educational themes
– Integrating visual arts into theatre exercises
Day 7: Integration and Performance
– Rehearsing and refining performances
– Integrating themes and skills learned throughout the workshop
– Group performances and presentations
– Reflection and feedback session
Fee for the workshop
– Workshop fee is Rs 5000/-
– Food and accommodation is not included.
